In Japanese folk tales house hold objects would come to life if they were a hundred years old, hence the presence of so many dancing, walking and talking slippers, umbrellas and lanterns in many Japanese wood cuts. Here's one enjoying a dance with a ghost cat! (you can tell he's a ghost cat because of its tails)
