My kindergarten teacher used to keep a marble jar. A shiny marble would join the jar for every good deed or good behavior. When we filled it all up, we had a “snow party.” Which meant she would spray foam all over our desks and we could whirl it around with our bare hands. It was a five year old’s definition of the most fabulous fun and I most definitely had fun. 

But I think I was the most enchanted when I would see the marbles catch the light, when I would hear the clink of a “good job” joining the jar.

These days it feels like I am collecting my own marbles. This time, just for myself. Sweet memories that I hold close, sparkling when I hold them up to the sun. The light reflected back reminds me of whipped cream and ABC’s. And I tell myself I’m doing a good job.
