Gallery Nucleus is proud to welcome back artists Jorge R. Gutiérrez and Sandra Equihua for a special Mexican Independence Day signing. Jorge and Sandra will be in the gallery from 3-5 PM, signing limited edition black and white Muerto Mouse figurines, as well as books and prints.
ABOUT MUERTO MOUSE
Muerto Mouse is a celebration of Mexican culture and classic cartoons created by Jorge R. Gutierrez, renowned artist and director of The Book of Life and the Netflix animated epic, Maya and the Three. This 8 inch vinyl figure is part of an edition of 250.
ABOUT SANDRA EQUIHUA
Sandra Equihua is an illustrator, painter, and animated character designer. She was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Her illustration clients have included Sony Pictures, Google, Microsoft, McGraw Hill, WEA, Disney, WB, Nickelodeon, CN and Simon & Schuster. Her paintings have been exhibited in various galleries both in Mexico and the US. Equihua won an Emmy Award for her character designs on El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera (Nickelodeon), the Emmy and Annie winning animated series she co-created with her long-time collaborator and husband, Jorge R. Gutierrez. She also won an Annie Award for her character designs on the film The Book of Life. Mostly recently she designed characters for the Emmy and Annie winning limited series Maya and the Three for Netflix.
ABOUT JORGE R. GUTIERREZ
Jorge R. Gutiérrez is an Emmy and Annie Award-winning animator, painter, writer, and director born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana. Gutierrez, a CalArts BFA & MFA grad, is famous for his films, cartoons, and paintings inspired by his deep love for Mexican pop and folk culture. He and his wife, Sandra Equihua, created the multiple Emmy and Annie Award-winning animated television series, El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon. In 2014 Gutierrez co-wrote and directed the Golden Globe-nominated film The Book of Life produced by Guillermo del Toro. Gutierrez also directed the Emmy and Annie nominated VR short Son of Jaguar for Google. Most recently he created, wrote and directed the Emmy and Annie winning limited series Maya and the Three for Netflix.
