ABOUT NATHAN GRENO
Nathan Greno is an American film Director, writer, and storyboard artist, whose career has spanned some of the most successful animated films of the past three decades. Best known for co-directing Disney’s landmark animated feature Tangled, Greno has built a reputation for crafting emotionally resonant stories that combine cinematic scale, memorable characters, and heartfelt humor.
Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Greno developed a passion for drawing and visual storytelling at an early age. Influenced by comic books, newspaper comic strips, and Disney’s animated classics, he spent his childhood creating original characters and stories, deciding by the age of eight that he wanted to work for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He later attended the Columbus College of Art & Design, where his portfolio earned him a position at Disney in 1996.
Greno began his career as a clean-up animator on Mulan before moving into the studio’s story department. He contributed to John Henry and Brother Bear, then relocated to California, where he served as a story artist, screenwriter, and voice actor on Meet the Robinsons, became Head of Story on Bolt, and made his directorial debut with the animated short Super Rhino. He also voiced Dasher in Disney’s Emmy Award-winning holiday special Prep & Landing.
In 2010, Greno co-directed Disney’s 50th animated feature, Tangled, which became a worldwide critical and commercial success. He later reunited with Byron Howard to direct the Academy Award-nominated short film Tangled Ever After and went on to contribute as an additional story artist on Frozen and as a creative advisor on Big Hero 6.
After more than two decades at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Greno joined Skydance Animation, where he directed Swapped for Netflix. Released in 2026, Swapped became a global phenomenon, breaking Netflix animation records, surpassing 100 million views in its first five weeks, and becoming one of the most successful animated films in the platform’s history.
Throughout his career, Greno has remained passionate about telling stories that celebrate empathy, optimism, and human connection. His films have reached audiences around the world and continue to inspire families through humor, heart, and unforgettable characters.
Greno lives in Los Feliz, California, with his wife, Colie, and their Labradoodle, Harry.
